Fix Your Swivel Bar Stools

When your swivel barstools don’t swivel anymore, it may seem like you’ll have to pony up and replace your entire bar stool set. Don’t worry if you’re still attached to your stools; you can find repair kits online for your barstools that are easy to install and can keep your bar stools moving for years to come.

Reviving Swivel Barstools

With a new swivel, retro or rustic barstools can be as good as new. Make sure you remove your barstool covers or barstool cushions before you get started, as some swivels may still have a bit of grease on them.

* First, you will need to determine what kind of swivel to buy; this will probably be the hardest part of installing your new swivel. Start by measuring the distance between the screws on your current swivel. Don’t measure diagonally across the center rivet, but measure from the center of each screw to the screw in the next slot. Don’t worry if the swivels you see aren’t exactly the same as your measurements, the elongated slot on the swivels will allow for some error. 5-1/4-inches is the industry standard for mounting screw hole patterns.

* Do you need a flat or tilted swivel? For barstools without backs, the swivel will always be flat. Barstools with backs can either have tilted or flat swivels. Your swivel is probably flat if the seat is flat to the floor, all sides of the plates on the swivel are equal distance from one another, and a level on the removed plate shows that it is level. Your swivel is tilted if it is not level.

* Don’t worry if you can’t find a swivel plate that is that exact same size as your old one; they can vary ¼-inch or so and will still be weight-bearing.

Making over your basement into a bar area is a great way to add a fun room into your house. Of course, you want to be sure to have a great bar with the appropriate lighting and accessories but one vital item that you must select carefully are the bar stools.

Bar stools come in many shapes, sizes, colors and decorating styles. Whether your bar is a tropical paradise, a fun and funky retro style or a formal and elegant version of the wine bar downtown, you are sure to find a stool that matches your décor.

But just finding a stool that looks good isn’t enough. You need to buy bar stools that are comfortable to sit in and are also the right height for your bar. In addition, you need to know how many stools to get for that perfect fit around the bar, otherwise you might find that it is simply too crowded and not as much fun as you thought!

If you want to have the most comfortable placement of your bar stools you must think of the bar o r pub table you will be pairing them with. Before you buy your set of bar stools, you need to measure the height of the bar that you will be putting them under. Be sure to pick stools that will allow for ten to thirteen inches between the top of their seat and the bottom of the bar or pub tables in your basement bar.

If your choice stools have arms, be sure that you can still push the stool under the bar. Bar stools can generally be purchased with seat heights of between 17 and 31 inches however you may not be able to purchase the specific piece of furniture you want in the size necessary. You may have to make a compromise and take home something in a similar style. It’s more important to get a stool that fits great and maybe isn’t the want you wanted most since the fit is vital to the overall comfort of the chair and comfort is key in your basement bar.

While you are shopping for bar stools, remember to have in mind the amount of stools you would like. The most comfortable placement for bar stools is twenty five – thirty inches from the center of one seat to the next seat. Take a measurement of the span of your bar and divide by 28 inches and you’ve got about how many stools need!

Your basement bar is supposed to be a fun place to hang out so, remember when buying bar stools that they should not only be decorative, but functional too. Getting a good look is important, but getting a great fit is vital!
